How a prospective player uses an LLM such as ChatGPT, Claude, Deepseek, and so on to help them through a character application is up to player discretion. However, no answer provided by an LLM may be used in ''any'' part of the application. It must be at most paraphrased by the human player. Applications suspected of full or co-authorship by an LLM will be rejected regardless of viability, and the character premise permanently vetoed from play. Cases of serial attempted LLM use may be subject to discipline by staff.

The Domains of Dread is an allowlist-only server. Every new character must be applied for in order to be given the ability to leave character creation and the out of character experience using the form initiated on the Discord, even by returning players. Applying for a character prior to creating them in-game is not necessary, but permission to leave into the world by Game Masters can be given only once that character exists at least somewhere in the in-game creation process.

At present, there are three kinds of applications depending on the class of the character being applied for: Normal, Divine, and Occult. If the character receives class or archetype features and/or spellcasting relating to the devout worship of an ideoligion such as Cleric or inherent Divine power such as Paladin then they must use the Divine application, and likewise for any character who receives the Occult spellbook or spell-like abilities such as Necromancer, Dark Knight or Warlock using the Occult application. This includes archetypes of otherwise Normal classes which use those spellbooks, like Shadow for Rogue. All other classes will use the Normal application.

Use of Large-Language Models (LLMs)

How a prospective player uses an LLM such as ChatGPT, Claude, Deepseek, and so on to help them through a character application is up to player discretion. However, no answer provided by an LLM may be used in any part of the application. It must be at most paraphrased by the human player. Applications suspected of full or co-authorship by an LLM will be rejected regardless of viability, and the character premise permanently vetoed from play. Cases of serial attempted LLM use may be subject to discipline by staff. If it is discovered that a successful application was fully or co-authored by an LLM after that character has entered the world, they will be rescinded from play permanently. They will also be rescinded from play if there is reason to suspect that the character's dialogue and replies in-game are being fully or co-authored by an LLM.
